white screen problem fix using rotobrush and primatte

Post by darknkreepy3# »

Sometimes when you are presented with a white background that is not properly lit or exposed, a client may ask you to 'green screen' or 'blue screen' the white background. essentially this is not possible even with primatte when the subject matter has anything resembling white (which is in all colored pixels that are lighter).

A great solution I have found is to draw a few keyframes about 20-30 frames apart with rotobrush in after effects CS% and above. it works amazingly, you just have to remember to not draw too closely to the edge of your subject, or you will get a strange fluctuation around the border.

You can then use primatte as an additional effect to pull that crsip white out you want in the blending areas of hair, collars and joint positions like fingers, crotches and elbows. by adding the light effect in primatte ontop with a 6 pixel blur and a mask blur of about 10-20 pixels (depending on your subject and it's angles) you can get that white room super clean sci fi look to your pieces.
